Text:   WILLIAM SCALF OF E'TOWN DIES - Striken Wednesday at Home of Son Here - Funeral Saturday.
     William A. Scalf, 68, of Elizabethtown, died at 4:15 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the home of his son, Harold E. Scalf, 1303 Lafayette avenue.
     Mr. Scalf was born in Canaan, the son of William and Mary Scalf. He was married in 1901 to Minnie Wingham, and was a member of the Elizabethtown Methodist church, the Masonic lodge, Red Men lodge and Pocahontas.
     Survivors are the wife, Mrs. Minnie M. Scalf; the son; five daughters, Mrs. Hilda Rich of Columbus, Mrs. Lela Perkins of Butlerville, Mrs. Iva Mae Wilbur and Mrs. Gertrude Burns, both of Elizabethtown, and Mrs. Virginia Burkman of Indianapolis; a brother, Thomas Scalf of Tecumseh, Okla., a sister Mrs. Nora Knipe of Indianapolis; 22 grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. One daughter, Mrs. Maude I. Paugh, preceded him in death. Four grandsons are serving in the armed forces.
     Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Elizabethtown Methodist church. Burial will be made at Garland Brook cemetery. The Elizabethtown Masonic lodge will conduct gravesite rites.
     The casket will be open after 6 o'clock this evening at the Hathaway funeral home, until time of the services at the church Saturday. (Columbus Herald; Columbus, Bartholemew County, Indiana; Friday, 16 Nov 1951; p. 1:5)

Text:   Death of W. M. Scalf at Wirt
Former Kentuckian Died Last Night at His Home Near Wirt
     W. M. Scalf, aged 73 years, died peacefully last night at his home near Wirt after an illness of nearly three years. The decendent was a native of Clay County, Ky., and for many years lived in that state, taking a deep and effective interest in church work and church organization. He organized the United Brethren church on Canip creek in Trimble county and up to about seven years ago was active in teh work at all times, besides being a good and thrifty farmer.
     For the past seven years in order to be with his children, Mr. Scalf with is good wife had resided in this county near Wirt, where he was weel known and highly respected. He united when a young man with the United Brethren church and was a good citizen, father and friend to all who knew him.
     Besides the widow, seven children survive as follows: Mrs. Julia Thayer, Greencastle; Mrs. William Melton, living at home; Mrs. Nora Knipe, Indianapolis; Robert Scalf, Rising Sun; Wave Scalf, Marble Corner; Thomas Scalf, Jennings, Okla., Mrs. Clara Armstrong, North Madison.
     Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11 oclock at the North Madison Methodist church.
