Sarah Lockard was born on 7 May 1875.
John Silas Scalf and she were married on 3 November 1894 in Knox County, Kentucky, USA. She died on 16 November 1952 at age 77 in Barbourville, Knox, Kentucky, USA. She was buried in Barbourville Cemetery, Barbourville, Knox, Kentucky, USA.
Sarah Scalf's father was Jess "Doc" Hammonds. Dicey was a widow when Sarah was born in 1875. Dicey passed away when Sarah was about 11 years old and Sarah was so depressed over the death of her mother that she stayed in bed for a long time. A family doctor told the Lockard boys that if they did not get Sarah out of bed and around other kids, they were going to lose her. Dud and his brothers took the Doctor's advice and Sarah recovered from the depression. Since her step father was dead at the time of Dise's death, Sarah went to live with the Jess "Doc" Hammons family. However, she did not have a good relationship with Doc Hammons' wife. So Sarah went to live with the three Lockard boys. Dud was about 10-12 years older than Sarah. All three boys worked in the coal mines. As Sarah grew older, she started to work as a house keeper.
