Donald James “Jim” Dayton, 49, of Nauvoo, died Sunday, May 11, 2008, at his home in Nauvoo as the result of a genetic heart disorder.
He was born on Oct. 13, 1958, in Washington, Iowa, a son of Donald D. And Ethel V. Scalf Dayton. He married Cindy Lee on Oct. 6, 1995, in Keokuk, Iowa.
He is surived by his wife, Cindy of Nauvoo; his parents, Donald and Ethel Dayton in Washington; one daughter, Kaela Rae Lynne Alecock of Savannah, Ga.; one grandson, Riley Alecock of Savannah; two step-daughters, Shelly (Richard) Hornung of Warsaw and Leigh Ann (Steve) Pfeiferling of Hamilton; four step-grandchildren, Ashley and Katie Hornung, Cortney Steffensmeier and Kailee Pfeiferling; his mother-in-law, Kathryn Lee of Warsaw; two sisters-in-law, Linda (Bob) Leffler of Warsaw and Kathy (Gary) Stansbury of Warsaw; one brother-in-law, Doug Lee of Warsaw; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
He graduated from Washington High School, Washington, and from Culver- Stockton College in Canton, Mo. He had been involved in music and band, playing the bass trombone. He had played in high school band, Culver- Stockton Band, Culver- Stockton Jazz Band and the Hannibal Big Band. He was a member of Bible Assembly of God Church in Carthage. He owned and operated Dayton School of Hair Design in Keokuk and Burlington, Iowa. He was past president of Iowa Cosmetology Association, serving as the youngest president. He was a member of Keokuk Lion's Club and Keokuk Country Club. He loved golfing and sports and was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan.
Funeral services are Friday, May 16, at 11 a.m. at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Hamilton. Rev. Tom Spain will officiate. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery in Warsaw. Visitation is Thursday, May 15, after 2 p.m. at Lamporte- St. Clair Funeral Home of Hamilton, family meeting friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorials have been established in his memory. Cindy Lee Dayton, 55, of Nauvoo, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2008, in her home in Nauvoo, after a extended battle with cancer.
She was born on Aug. 9,1953, in Rushville, a daughter of Rayden and Kathryn June Lung Lee. On Oct. 6, 1995, she married Donald James Dayton in Keokuk, Iowa. He died May 11, 2008.
She is survived by her mother, Kathryn June Lee of Warsaw; two daughters, Shelly (Richard) Hornung of Warsaw and Leigh Ann (Steve) Pfeiferling of Hamilton; one step-daughter, Kaela Ray Lynne Alecock of Savannah, Ga.; two sisters, Linda (Robert) Leffler of Warsaw and Kathy (Gary) Stansbery of Warsaw; one brother, Rayden D. Lee of Warsaw; four grandchildren, Ashley and Katie Hornung, Cortney Steffensmeier and Kailee Pfeiferling; and one step-grandson, Riley Alecock.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her father, Rayden Lee.
She graduated from Warsaw High School and Robert Morris College in Carthage. She was a member of Bible Way Assembly of God Church in Carthage. She was a manager and co-owner of the Daytons School of Hair Design in Keokuk and Burlington, Iowa. She loved to be with her family and friends, she liked to read and enjoyed art and crafts.
Funeral services will be held at Bethly Presbyterian Church in Hamilton on Thursday, Sept. 18, at 11 a.m. Pastor Tom Spain will officiate. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery in Warsaw. Friends may call the Lamporte - St. Clair Funeral Home in Hamilton after 2 p.m. ion Wednesday, Sept. 17, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials in her memory have been established for Lee County Hospice.
The Lamporte - St. Clair Funeral Home in Hamilton is in charge of the arrangements. Cindy Sue Lee lived in Nauvoo, Ill.2 She had person sources.3
