     In his book, "Scalf Family History," Elmer D. Scalf claims "Ransome 'Doctor' Scalf" married Caroline Eads. However, this is probably a confusion with his uncle, Doctor S. Scalf, who married Nancy Caroline Eads (whom he has listed as Nancy E. Eads.)

     BIRTH: Margaret Fleenor lists birth year as 1872, based on 1880 Turkeytown, Carter County, Tennessee Census, p. 321D, and that he was out of the home in the 1900 Carter County census; however, the cemetery record shows a date of 14 Mar 1881. This date could not possibly be correct, because he was alive and listed as 8 years old on 1880 census. Suspect there was a transcription error, and actual birth year was 1871,
