In the 1870 Census, William (age 26) and his wife, Sarah (age 25) were living in the home of his parents. Unfortunately, this census does not show the relationship of the individuals to the head of household, so there is no indication whether any of the children belonged to William and Sarah.
The 1880 Census shows William married to Sarah, with children: Charles (10) and Jennie (3/12, Feb) [These dates correspond in other records with Sarah Jane Russell - so I believe this was her actual name, Jennie being a nickname).
We know from cemetery records that Sarah (the mother) died November 4, 1887, and from marriage records, that William married Martha E.[A.] Scalph on January 10, 1890 in York County, Nebraska. However, the 1890 Census shows just William, listed as widowed, and his daughter, Blanche (born 1887). William J. Russell lived in Cortland, Dekalb, Illinois, USA, in 1870.
